Micro irrigation practice diversifies our source of income
Said Mohamed Dahir lives in a small farm near Gesdhere village said “In our farm, growing cash crops was very difficult. It needs sufficient water. Papaya and sweet orange was the only crop used to grow because of its dearth of water. After provision of rubber sheets and drip irrigation, we grew new variety in my farm. Tomato grew in the farm. The installation of drips really motivated me and I used to keep it more than before. I used to pick up 3 boxes per day in three months. Per box of tomato it was 50,000 sh and in total sh 4000,000 per plot installed with the drips. In addition to, large quantity of the tomato in the farm was being used for cooking in my wedding events because I got married while it was growing. The received money I used for other expenses during wedding.

I am Happy To
“Iam one of the students reached the highest grade level of our school. The highest level is grade seven. When our predecessors finish it, they used to move to Gabiley town. Some of them who had no relatives in Gabiley walk to learn from there. More than 3 hours is walked to reach intermediate school in Gabiley. The new building of classes in our school made us happy. I and my older brother learn together with these classes. Our family planned to take us to our older brothers’ families live in Gabiley since there were no grade 8 levels in here. Now we learn with our old classmates. We received grade 8 teaching with our parents.

Rehabilitated Shallow well returned our hope
Many thanks to SOHA and Actionaid for the rehabilitation of our shallow well. In our farm, we used produce crops in one season because the only water source of this farm is this shallow well. Due to its location on the bank of the dry River, debris and sand used to fill up every year. When it gets ruined, it was to abandon and used to result less farm production. Such farm poor Productivity had been disturbing our household livelihood. In dry season, we used to re-excavate which was highly cost.
After rehabilitation, our well is protected from floods of the dry river. The exorbitant cost for de-silting in dry season is now has been saved for us. We managed to grow variety of cash crops including cabbage and lettuces which we abandoned before. We harvested such cash crops three times so far than ones before. Fruits of mango, sweet orange and guava were picked up frequently. This increase and constant harvesting of crops in our farm has really improved our family income. Rehabilitation of our shallow well returned our hope and better life. Thanks SOHA and Actionaid.” Said by Nimo Ahmed Alia mother with 8 children in Huluuq.
